The corners were like this.
I remember the first time I played in the Ottawa's new rink, the puck went in the corner.
It felt like it went into a black hole.
I was like 1,001, 1,002.
I literally look around the ice to see where everybody is.
And it just took forever to come out of the corner.
But if you played in Maple Leaf Gardens, everything dumped in, came right back like a pinball machine, right back to the center.
And for a goalie, it is extremely difficult.
I remember asking Joe Sackick at the first Olympics, I go, Joe, you must love this big ice.
You're a great skater.
And you know what Joe said?
I hate it.
I hate it because I like getting the puck and the net being right there and shooting it.
And so when I get the puck now, I have 1,001, 1,002 for me to get to the net.
So having those really shallow corners...
As a goalie, you don't have time to look around.
It bounces right back out.
Game's in play.
Everything's in front of you.
And I would advise that for the NHL to go back to the extremely shallow corners.
