Chapter 1: What did Canada do to achieve victory against Czechia?
This hour of Overdrive is powered by FanDuel. FanDuel, bringing you everything from the opening line to the final score.
Alright, here we go. Overdrive off and running. TSN 1050 on the TSN app. Your home smart speaker up on TSN 5, up on YouTube Live. Brian Hayes, the O-Dog Jeff O'Neill, Jamie Noodles McLennan. What's going on? What's going on? How are we feeling?
Tell me you're not invested and in love. Noodles, I know you do games and you just walk out of the building, you wash your hands, you're like, I have no skin in the game. Yep. What about for the white and red? Do you not watch that and say, I'm attached to that? And I love that. How do you not love that?
Love it.
I love the storylines coming out of it because... What? Hang on a sec. What? Go ahead. You don't watch that and say, like, that makes my heartbeat, and I'm in love with John Cooper and McJesus and Stinky Bo Horvat looking like Mario out there. I love everything about it. How do you not love that? You know what? I said to a friend before the game started, I said, I'm worried about the storyline.
It's just goaltending. If Binnington has a slow start. But how do you not like Binner right now?

Chapter 2: How did the lines perform during the game?
Not anymore. Shut up today. Come on. The 10th save of the game, the glove save in the first period where he reaches back like dynamite. Great save. You know, I think they would have won. No, not think. I know they would have won regardless. But, you know, it was close for first period. Like, you know, the first period, Cechia threw a lot at them. And I thought Binnington made some good saves.
I thought Canada was around it. That Lucas Dostel is a good goaltender. So eventually they had to break through. But I just – I got excited. Celebrini scoring I thought was really cool, you know, the first goal of the tournament. But I just – I had some – I think it was just personal anxiety for Binnington. I don't know why. You know, I have no skin in the game.
Sure, yeah. A lot of storylines around him, right? A lot of concerns, anxiety around that position in general.
Yeah, so that's what I was thinking about, guys. And then, you know, watching the game, you're like – I went for lunch with a few buddies, and we were watching it on the screen there. It just – It was good. You know, Canada looked like from the second on they took control of the game, and they didn't look controlled.
I loved it. Yeah, I loved it. Proud Canadian rooting for them.

Chapter 3: What insights did Hayes share from his list after the win?
The women won 5-0 this morning right into the men like that. Aggregate score 10-0 over the course of about four hours. Four hours and 25 minutes. It was a beautiful baton pass, right? The women said let us dust. the fins, which they did, and hand it right over the men. You could tell they were just ready to rock. I mean, that's the thing, a body language.
What about McJesus trucking someone behind the net?
I've never seen him throw a hit that big.
Do you know how many times I've talked to Duffy in the pregame, and I'm like, it would be great if Austin Matthews, and I'm not trying to crap on Matthews, but it would be great if Matthews just trucked somebody right off the hop and like, Set the tone and drop the hammer, and he's a big dude. And look what that, like, that just sends such a message to everyone.
When you've got McJesus trucking somebody early and everyone's on the bench, they're like, that's the greatest player in the world, and that guy just ran over that guy. He means business, and let's follow the lead. I loved it. It was beautiful.
Yeah, it was. Yeah, McKinnon threw a little kind of reverse hit around the same time.
Yeah, reverse hit behind the net there, and it was like he means business as well.
Yeah, they do, man. It was kind of funny. Like after the game, Cooper explained it, why he had to talk to them, kind of bring them in like they were kids. Remember when you were kids? He had to let the other team leave the ice first, and he explained it the way the rink is built. It takes him a long time to get over to even see the guys, right?
So, you know, if it takes them 25 minutes to get over there, they've showered, they're doing their media, they're getting out of there. So I think that's going to be standard procedure. Win or lose, Cooper's going to call them in and kind of give them his post-game chat.

Chapter 4: What are Curtis Joseph's thoughts on Jordan Binnington's performance?
It's not surprising. Every team's in the game. Czechia was ready to play. The Americans are playing now. Latvia, everyone's ready to play. But even after winning 5-0, it was like Cooper was not there to joke around, not laughing about anything. All business, right? All business. Let's get the record straight. This is the start. And, you know, there's a football element to it, right?
We always talk about overreaction Monday. There's a chance for overreaction Thursday afternoon. I thought Cassie Campbell, Pascal mentioned that after the game. I thought Cassie made a good point. She's like, it's only one, guys. Everyone's going nuts, myself included.
I'll go nuts, and I'll just say it right now. No one is beating that hockey team. I'm sorry. I think they're so good. You know you feel the same way, so show some stones and say it.
I picked them to win. I'm not going to change it after a game.
No one is beating that hockey team.
I'm sorry. I'm not going to change my mind after a 5-0 win. I thought they'd win gold. I've always said that for years.
But are you willing to just make a statement and say no one's touching that team?

Chapter 5: How does playing in the Olympics differ from regular NHL games?
Because I believe that that is the case. You're not beating that team.
I think, let's be clear here, the way the sport works, a goalie that stands on his head can beat anybody. Yes. So could they get into a gold medal game where Hellebuck has the game of his life and they lose 3-2? Yeah. That could happen. It obviously could happen. Do I think they're the best team? Yes, I do.
Now, the Americans are just going, and the Americans on paper are a great team, and I think in practice they'll be a great team. I think Sweden's going to be a good team. I think Finland, regardless of what happened yesterday, is going to be a team to be reckoned with. You know, Czechia, though, they got some good players. Pasternak did nothing today.
And I think that was just Canada kind of pushed them out. You know, like Nate just had a couple of sneaky plays with the puck, but really wasn't much of a factor either.
Their depth got challenged. That's what it was. I think there's a lot of countries that feel that they can have one really good line, And then after, there's a drop-off. I'll give you an example. Germany. Germany's got Dreisaitl, Stutzle, and Seider. That's three pretty good players. But then there's a drop-off. But it shows to me that Germany's program is growing.
When you can grow top-end talent, a lot of the other stuff falls in behind it. So they might be a generation away, but Germany's program is coming. A lot of these programs are coming.

Chapter 6: What is the significance of the women's team's performance in the Olympics?
But Canada's program's been the gold standard. That's really what it is. And there's no reason to believe they can't be there. You know, it is overreaction Thursday afternoon. I'll be honest. I had a tough time. Like, it's still 10 o'clock in the morning. Like, I love watching the primetime. On the couch, you've had dinner. This was like after a workout. You're like, oh, I forgot. It's at 1045.
Get ready. Gear up for it. I kept thinking because I had a lunch plan, and I timed it perfectly after the first period to get to lunch. And when I went in, I said to the owner, I said, can you put the game on? He said, no, the game's not on. I said, the game is on right now. Because people forget.
Well, people are scrambling, right? I've had people text me about the American game. You know, where is it? I'm like, well, it's somewhere. CBC, TSN.
Yeah, you've just got to blast through the channels.
Yeah, you've got to blast through them. Exactly. I don't know where it is. It's on one of the three networks.
Yeah, TSN has nine channels.

Chapter 7: How do the players handle pressure during high-stakes games?
The other one has seven. And there's the other ones on the lower numbers. You've just got to dig.
Exactly. It's out there. You've got to search for a bit. But... Yeah, I mean, listen, the time zones, they are what they are. And it's going to be the case, you know, the rest of the tournament. And you're going to adjust to it. But I think just seeing them out there was really cool. And even the fact that it's in Europe, and Duffy pointed this out while they were just warming up.
that the European crowds are going to get on Canada. There were more Czechia fans there. When they play Switzerland tomorrow, there will be more Swiss fans there. I think where they're going to take over the building is if they play the Americans because I think the rest of the world will root for Canada for the most part. There will be Americans there if and when they play the Americans.
Every country is going to be represented. There are a bunch of Canadian fans there. I was watching the American game before we came on. A bunch of Americans there. And if it's a gold medal game, there will be a million athletes for both sides that will be there. So it will be pretty well represented. But it's going to be road games. You're not playing in Vancouver.
It's not Salt Lake where a lot of Canadians are finding a way down there. It's not going to be that way.
Let me ask you this. I got a text from my buddy today. And he said, I'm booking a ticket to go watch the gold medal game.

Chapter 8: What are the expectations for Canada's hockey team moving forward in the tournament?
I want to see Canada win the gold medal game. He goes, you want to come? I'll get you a ticket. If it was you, would you wheel over there to watch that game and then come back?
What is the turnaround? Like, are you flying in on Friday, game on Saturday? You're probably, yeah, like you're probably the day before. I don't know. That's a long trip for a 72-hour spin. I would do it. I think I would do it because it would be amazing.
I do it every summer. It's a nine-hour flight from Montreal directly to Milan. Yeah, this is like one day and then turn around and back. Yeah, but again... You go to Vegas with your buddies and drink for 48 hours and don't go to sleep. So this would be the equivalent of that same thing, except you're sleeping on a plane overnight and getting there. I think you go.
Oh, I mean, I don't know why you would go. Oh, I feel like you could have been there if you wanted to.
Yeah, you're not going. I would love to go. I mean, Milan would be incredibly cool. Yeah. Now, you're risking heartbreak. Fly over there and they lose.
Dude, that's the thing. You go over there to an event like that. Send us any messages if you had, like, your team got to the pinnacle Super Bowl World Series and you flew somewhere and your team got smoked. I think Brian Hayes did that to leave our stadium. Yeah, you flew to San Fran and watched the Packers get smacked around. NFC Championship game. That was NFC. Yeah, like that's, yeah.
And the crazy thing is it was like a week before COVID hit. So on one hand, I'm like, I'm kind of glad I took the trip. But to insult the injury, the world stopped two weeks later.
Hang on. What happened? I forget what happened with the Super Bowl. That went on as normal?
Yeah. It was January 28, 2020 or something like that. It was the end of the 2019 season. which leaks obviously into the new year. And it was Mahomes against Garoppolo in the Super Bowl. I don't remember where the Super Bowl was that year. It was in Miami or Tampa. Yeah, I think you're right. Yeah, so it was the Packers were playing the Niners. They got pumped. I remember you took a picture.
