I slid over to the other side.
My uncle went behind the steering wheel and the other one in the back.
And we headed for a little hospital 12 miles down the road, Warwood, Minnesota.
And he was driving full speed, 120, all the way down there.
And we got to the hospital.
And the road is separated from the hospital doors by 150 feet maybe, maybe a little bit more, with a long sidewalk.
And the uncles ran out to carry me to the hospital.
And it's like I definitively, I needed to appraise the situation, even at 13 years old.
I said, no, I got to walk.
Because by trying to walk, I could assess how bad I was.
I just knew that that's the thing.
More than what a doctor can tell me, it'll tell me if I'm broken, broken bones, all that stuff.
And I walked all the way to the door.
And at the door, all strength was gone.
My weakness was there, and they put me in there.
And I remember that night.
You probably haven't had occasion to think of it, but when you have a lot of bleeding, they put a rubber sheet on top of the mattress so it doesn't get ruined.
And the nurse came in, and I asked the nurse, I says, am I supposed to slosh?
And she says, what?
I says, am I supposed to slosh?
