As President Trump returned to Washington from Florida, he told reporters he had, quote, demanded that about seven nations that are heavily reliant on Middle East oil join the coalition to protect the critical Strait of Hormuz, which about 20 percent of the world's oil flows through.

Trump did not say what nations the administration has spoken with, but he said they should come in and protect their own territory.

As he returned to Washington on Air Force One, he discussed the military situation in the Strait.

Iran over the weekend threatened to strike the oil infrastructure of its neighbor, the United Arab Emirates, saying the UAE's cooperation with the U.S.

makes it a legitimate target.
