And so this is a step in the right direction.
Obviously, I think Darnell did a lot to improve his game last year under a new coaching staff and a new system here.
And now you just kind of go through the process of figuring out what that looks like in your long-term future, what you want to invest in those conversations will, will get underway and you're not under an intense deadline to get them done here in the next, you know, four or five days.
But I think that will be a fluid process here over the next few months.
I'm fine with it because, listen, I think people need to be realistic with the understanding that, yes, there are high hopes here in Chicago.
There's a belief that this team can try to take a jump up.
But when you go and look at where the odds makers have the bears in terms of being a Super Bowl favorite, they're outside the top 10.
And so it's not like you need to have your ready-made Super Bowl finished product today.
Otherwise, you're in big trouble.
And so you're building towards sustaining success for the long term.
And so
In order to acquire Dexter Lawrence, there's a high asking price in terms of draft capital.
There's a high asking price in terms of his current contract.
There's a higher asking price in terms of his future extension.
And so those are all things that you have to take into account when you're assessing a situation like that.
Your team needs to try to figure out a way to build sustained success through drafting strong.
And then developing those players that you draft.
And so I think that they're kind of in this stage now where they've done a lot of investing in this roster over the last few years.
And now all of a sudden, as Grody and I have talked about a bunch, the improvement of the team sometimes has to come from the improvement within the team rather than going out and making a bunch of roster additions.
Well, you don't have โ I get it.
