Chapter 1: What mindset are the Bears adopting for the NFL Draft?
Dan Wiederer, Bears reporter and senior writer for The Athletic. You're going to be relying on a lot of young players, guys that have to materialize into who they thought they were. The Bears are who we thought they were.
On-air contributor for 104.3 The Score. We'll mention this mainly because Dan Wiederer said we would mention this nugget.
Chapter 2: How are young players expected to contribute to the Bears' success?
Host of the Take the North podcast. We're going to take the North and never give it back. Dan Wiederer. Thanks, Coach. We'll go first to Dan Wiederer. On Chicago Sports Radio, 104.3 The Score. Weezy!
Rahimi Harrison-Grody on the score. It's happening. It's really happening. We didn't think we were going to have Weedzy, Weedman, because they're all waiting for Caleb Williams to speak. We thought we were going to do a Dan Weiderer pregame show, but Dan is joining us. He is at Hallis Hall right now. What in the Weiderer is going on out there right now, man?
Yeah, we had a 10-15 showtime here today. We got to talk to Cole Komet, Kobe Bryant, and Garrett Bradbury, and Caleb is the headliner of the show, and he's been significantly delayed with meetings, and hopefully we'll get to hear from him before the day's up.
I was just saying to Marshall here off the air, the more power, like we all want the franchise quarterback, we all want the elite quarterback, but guess what? Those guys get to do things on their own time.
Listen, I mean, that's when you go to a big show, big concert, big anything, there's a little bit of a wait before that main act comes on the stage.
Wow, that's such a great comp right there.
Sometimes a lot of bit of a wait. Sometimes you've got to come back the next day. Dan, I've got to ask you, where does this week rank for you? As a guy who covers the NFL diehard for so long, draft week, where is that on your this-is-my-time-to-shine type of situation? Because training camp, there's the playoffs, there's all kinds of different markers to an NFL season.
Where does this one rank for you?
Yeah.

Chapter 3: What insights does Dan Wiederer provide about draft week excitement?
talking about Darnell Wright and making room for his extension. You're going to have to start talking eventually with Caleb Williams. You're hopeful that Roman Dunze is in that conversation for an extension. So there's a lot of things up the road that you have to be cognizant of that are coming for you before you just go, it's now or never.
Let's take this veteran defensive tackle and cross our fingers that he's the missing piece for a Super Bowl run.
Dan, it's easier to process Mark's argument if you just really understand he just wanted a guy named Sexy Dexy on the roster so he could have fun with that.
You can never have too much Sexy Dexy. That's a great point.
No doubt about it. And now you've got to go out. You do still need it. We all know. You need help on your defensive front. And so this weekend will be about that for sure.
How confident are you now that you've had the month plus of real draft preparation that the ā The Bears are going to meet the needs specifically up front with these first three picks of the draft.
You've got to get something there. You really do. I would be very disappointed to get in my car and pull out of this parking lot here at Hellesall on Friday night and not feel like they've added a defender up front that can be an impact contributor fairly quickly. Look, I get it. There's best player available. There's need.
And then there's sort of the supply and demand that the draft brings to you at each of your various picks. But they're going to have to surf that wave. And I think it's well documented that more help is needed up front, both interior and on the edge. And you would be hopeful that they find a way to maneuver their draft board in a way that allows them to address that.
Um, obviously some players have already spoken up there at house. I saw that Kobe Bryant was speaking. That's a guy that I'm still, we're, we're all getting to know. We kind of know what he's capable of on the field, but did anything stand out about what the, the bears brand new freshly signed safety had to say there at house all today?

Chapter 4: What are the implications of exercising Darnell Wright's fifth-year option?
And that's why I've said for a while now that, that the menu of options available to the bears is intriguing because it allows you to be flexible in case the board breaks in a way that you would rather it not. Right. That happens a lot where you're like, Oh man, we expected this guy to be here for us. He wasn't, but he, Check this out.
This column stacks up really nicely for us with this position group and the player that we really like at the top of it. And so I would think that Thursday night gives them a real opportunity to find a guy that they believe in, right, and can move forward. Now, the offensive tackle position to me, guys, is the most interesting because
You talk to people around the league and it's like, if you don't get one on night one, you're not getting one. And so I feel like that's kind of the cutoff of where you're going to have to decide, do we really want to force that issue or are we okay with this Braxton Jones, Theo Bennett, Jed Wills competition? And so, you know, that's part of the calculus.
And they've done these preparations, they've done these simulations, and they'll go into Thursday night prepared for whatever the board brings them.
Dan, I hope that at some point in time Caleb Williams speaks. I'm glad. Selfishly, I'm glad that you got to join us, though.
You can't keep a man waiting on his holiday. It is Dan Weider's holiday. It's the Weed Man's holiday.
420, baby! I'll tell you this, though. There's two reasons it's the holiday. Number one, it's 420, but also it's the first day of youth baseball game tonight, 745. Oh! But here's another little nugget here. As a veteran, I knew to pack my lunch today.
There's about four or five writers that sit in cubicles around me that didn't bring a lunch today because they figured, okay, we're going to be in and out. We'll be able to head out to lunch well before noon. Caleb's timeline has changed the eating habits of a handful of people in that room right now.
So there's going to be some angry people when that presser begins because they're going to be hungry and feeling that hanger that I know from the walls of my house very well.

Chapter 5: How does the Bears' draft strategy reflect their current roster needs?
No.
I love Tyson. And then I asked Grody to do a Some People Like Chris Emma version of that. Oh, yeah. That's exactly what it was. That's it. Some People Like Chris Emma. I love Chris Emma. Me personally, I love Chris Emma. I'm going to say it with a softer tone than what Grody likes to bring to the microphone.
I love Chris Emma. I just don't know if I like me. Ohio State defensive tackle Caden McDonald is who Emma goes with at number 25. I'll read his little blurb here right now. Like many of his peers around the NFL, Pohl speaks of letting the board largely determine each pick. It's difficult to predict.
who will be available late in the first round, but the Bears should come away with an impact player at a position of need. A consensus All-American, McDonald may very well be that selection. I don't know if you remember this, Mars Hall, and it's okay if you didn't because we all have like a million mock drafts in our heads, but I think that he will be available in the second round.
and the Bears will get Caden McDonald in the second round. They may have to trade up. Matter of fact, that's specifically what I said on the Take the North live podcast, which is up and running right now if you want to hear Dan and I's predictions. But I like it. I like Caden McDonald. You know why? He's the best run-stuffing defensive lineman in the draft.
This smells of the KISS philosophy, keep it simple, stupid.
Mm-hmm.
if he's there at 25 and going back to the beast by Dane Brugler of the athletic, I mean, he's like the number one defensive tackle available. It seems like an obvious selection and maybe not so much as like, he's not the obvious selection over everyone else, but an obvious selection. If your need is defensive line up front, take that guy.
He's the best available according to a lot of different people. And therefore you can address a need. Now, If you want to play a little gambling game and say he'll be there in the second round, especially because the Bears pick later in the second round, you could do that. I just think sometimes the simple answer is the answer.

Chapter 6: What key positions should the Bears target in the draft?
At 8 p.m. Oh, I love that. Some live programming. Okay. Okay. All right, Emma. I see you. I see what you got going on. We'll get you some clicks. We'll get the whole thing. We'll get you some views. Click, click, click, click, click. Oh, yeah. Clickety-clack.
Don't talk back. How's the studio look? Is everything okay? Because coming up next, we are going to have the big boss in here talking to us. He is Mitch Rosen. He will be taking a mic. Does he know the rules that we have?
You're going to have to clean up a little bit in the break.
I guess so. Is the chair ready for him? It looks like it's at Haw Height over there. It's the Haw Height chair. We've got to get that thing down. I don't know what goes on in here. He'll stand.
I guarantee you Mitch will stand.
You think so? He'll stand. But Mitch Rosen is going to join us next to talk about Doug Buffone. because today would be the anniversary of his death, of losing Doug Buffon, a score classic, a Bears classic, a guy that means a lot to a lot of people at this radio station, and I know a ton of people listening as well.
So we are excited to have Mitch Rosen join us next here on Rahimi Harrison-Grody on 104.3 The Score.
You walk into a dentist and he pulls the wrong damn tooth, don't you get a little pissed off? I would think so. That's a professional playing a professional football game. And looking at a professional football game, I don't go out of bounds. I don't do that. I don't care what happened before that. I don't care if the coach called the wrong play.
I don't care if I'm running to the short side of the field. Do not do that.
