And I think anyone can answer it if you pause and take the time to think about it.
But we rarely do.
We just act on those thoughts and feelings.
We don't look at them.
And looking at them means you have a space inside where you can see it.
You can name it rather than being run by it.
I don't know if it's true that all intelligent people lack emotional intelligence.
I think you can be smart both ways.
But they are two very different ways of being smart, and they're based in different parts of the brain.
You know, if you're smart cognitively, like AI β AI is genius β
But, you know, the human equivalent of that is all skills that are what are called cortical skills, top of the brain skills.
I'm very good at math.
I'm very good at whatever it is, at some kind of knowledge.
But that doesn't mean you're going to be good with people.
And in fact, my first insight into emotional intelligence was when I went to a very competitive college and I realized that a lot of the people who were very, very smart were
according to their grades, weren't that great as human beings.
They weren't that great as people.
You didn't really want them as your best friends.
And I think people who are emotionally intelligent have a different kind of intelligence.
They have the ability to integrate with their cognitive smarts their emotional situation.
