But asked by Drance about the process over the last week or so that led to this point, the Sedins very upfront name-checking Evan Gold specifically, confirming directly that he was the final external candidate and saying they were involved in the final interviews.
I think they even said we basically spent the day with Evan Gold, did the same thing with RJ.
We talked to ownership and Jim Rutherford about their perspective and what they'd gleaned through the interview process.
And then they made the decision.
I think takeaway number one, at least for me, or one of the top takeaways from listening to the Sedins was this is our show.
We are not presidents of hockey operation in name only.
We made the decision on the general manager, and that's one of โ
the most significant decisions that the presidents of hockey operations can make for a team.
And they did that, and they have already done that.
So any suggestion that this is, you know, already, right, this is completely differentiated from the Sundin-Cheka dynamic in Toronto, where they were hired together, but Sundin certainly, as far as we're led to believe, did not have a role in selecting John Cheka directly.
This was, the Sundins were offered the job.
They accepted it.
They decided to become the presidents.
And then they chose the GM of the two candidates remaining at the end of the process.
And that suggests their hands very, very firmly on the wheel here going forward.
650-650 is the Dunbar-Lumber text line, and we can get into a lot of what they had to say about what the process looks going forward.
I think there were some very heartening things there, maybe some things I might have concerns about as well that we can talk about.
As we expected, though, a lot of focus on culture,
a lot of focus on the community.
