That's why I went back because it gives me a better chance of making a painting that stands on its own and no one else is doing it.
And I've got a fair knowledge of contemporary art.
And I like the artists that hang out with other artists.
I mean, you select who you want to hang out with, but.
I think art does, as I said earlier, art does come from and is about art.
So I'm very aware of the contemporary language of painting.
It just so happens I'm using something that hasn't changed since Constable was doing this.
Constable was the first one that went... Not the first one, but went out...
and painted the land he knew really well, and made it very emotional and direct and true to him.
And I think if an artist is true to himself, it gives you the chance that you're open enough that somebody who comes in to look at the paintings can relate or respond or connect with.
