The thing is to find your own voice and to find what it is you really want to paint about.
The artists that interest me are always autobiographical.
It's more the sort of honesty of the artists to themselves is what you pick up on.
That was my own story is being on this land in mid Wales.
That gives me the confidence and the sort of honesty of that's where I come from.
And that's what I experienced as a teenager was being in this land.
So that for me gives me the sort of ground rules.
It's a way of finding your language that resonates deep within you.
You know, my paintings take a long time to finish.
I have many canvases up in Wales and I leave them there quite often.
I'll let them, you know, I have so many that winter goes into spring, that goes into summer.
And there's three or four on the go of that season.
And so now, as we're coming into spring, the winter paintings, if they're not finished, will then sit there for the next winter.
