And so, yeah,
Once the same thing, you know, he added a little bit of bat speed and turned into a star and the same thing happened to Michael Garcia in Kansas city.
And so I started looking around last year for guys who fit a certain profile, you know, under a certain age, uh, under a certain level of bat speed over a certain number of, uh, in zone contact rate and, um,
And under a certain chase rate and with, you know, some fuzzy characteristics in there to, you know, mentioned age up playing it up the middle defensive position, you know, which says to me that you have some kind of athleticism, some kind of like body awareness that you can maybe make a change to your swing without.
throwing the whole thing at a whack.
And the guys I came up with, two of them were Marlins, and that was Xavier Edwards and Liam Hicks, and also Caleb Durbin, who ironically was the one I was the most confident about, and it turns out not to be working that great so far.
But Hicks and Edwards...
Excuse me.
Hicks and Edwards have both been terrific this season, and it's just, you know, once you have these secondary skills, you know, plate discipline, contact ability, that hand-eye coordination, it...
You don't need that much bat speed.
Even now, Geraldo Perdomo is like a 20th percentile bat speed guy.
And he's a terrific hitter and is hitting at the top of the lineup for a team with playoff aspirations.
And Hicks and Edwards are the same.
And so the Marlins are full of guys like this, guys who โ
are short, who don't have elite bat speed, but have really good, have really good approach, really good contact skills.
You know, you could throw Jacob Marcy, who's not having a great season right now in there.
But you could also throw Otto Lopez in there, who is having a good season.
And so that's a way to, you know, they've done sort of a poor man's version of what Cleveland does.
They've cobbled together pieces on the cheap.
and figured out how to get the best out of him.
