And if you talk to people working in the field, I think there's a real urgency around really trying to essentially be first to market on some of these things and become a really reliable organisation.
um provider of it um and yeah so i came away from that this is before i even even decided to run with a real sense of yeah what are we doing as a country what is it what is our what is our vision uh for the future
Why are we such a wealthy country but we're the world leaders in extinction and we have this real lack of investment in landscapes and wildlife?
All these things that you'd say are uniquely and iconically Australian.
What's more Australian than some of these landscapes, than some of these incredible marsupials?
And yet we don't really...
We don't really seem to care too much about them when it really comes down to the dollars and cents and the budget and the priorities.
And I think it definitely played a part in when I got asked to run for the Senate.
It was one of the things I thought a lot about.
I love this country so much.
It's given me so much.
I moved here as a 14-year-old.
And I'm so grateful for those opportunities.
And I think with...
With any country, if you truly think it's a great country, then you've got to hold it to a high standard.
And yeah, I've really enjoyed contributing in a very different way as a politician and serving people in the ACT.
We're one of the biggest gas exporters in the world.
Every time the price of gas goes up internationally, we feel poor.
Our power bills go up.
And if you look at the revenue, we really don't get a huge amount from it, particularly from our offshore LNG.
