And I said, no, I haven't.
I said, don't tell me you've heard from Sasha, which was his little boy.
And he goes, I have.
And I said, how?
And he goes, we found him on Facebook.
So that night I went home and I was searching for as many Yuri Kuchenko's as I could find around the world.
And I think I found around about 20 odd
and sent out all these messages and hoping frantically, you know, over the course of the next few days that I'd get a message and there was nothing.
So I kind of thought, okay, well, that's the end of it for me.
Nothing, nothing.
And then 2018, so about a year later, I wake up one morning and here's a Facebook message and it says to me, hello, my Australian mummy, Deborah, it's me, it's Yuri.
Hello.
And in that moment, I remember tears springing to my eyes.
Then I remember having this sense of, am I getting scammed?
You know, he's now a man.
Well, he ended up saying to me, I'm at work when I get home tonight, I will write to you.
And he did.
And not only did he write to me and tell me he was now a policeman in Kiev.
He took a photo of his bedside table where he still had our family portrait sitting there.
It was beautiful.
