I love amazing, smart women.
The DJ Khaled joke is everything.
Right back at you.
No shade, he should really get on that.
Anyway, moving on.
Congratulations.
Thank you.
Congratulations on this memoir.
It's beautifully written and so deeply honest.
You talked about being asked many times before earlier in your career to write a book and you didn't quite feel ready yet.
What made this moment perfect for you?
I thought I was ready to write about all the sort of childhood trauma and abuse and not be sort of re-traumatized and triggered.
And I thought we had like a writing technique in place to help with that.
But I was wrong.
I was wrong, and I didn't, but I didn't want to when I had a book deal before.
I just wasn't ready to, like, spill.
It was the beginning of Orange is the New Black had just come out, and I just wasn't ready to, like, spill all my guts.
And a lot of it, too, was out of respect for my mother.
But I didn't want to write a book and BS.
I wanted to write a book that was honest, vulnerable, and said what really happened in my life.
