Modern AI can do something similar.
It can write like a person, speak like a person, create faces, imitate styles, generate videos and produce messages that feel personal.
That can be useful, of course.
It can help us write faster, learn faster, plan better, create campaigns, analyze data, and avoid staring at an empty document like a frightened squirrel.
But the same power can also be used to deceive.
AI does not need to be conscious to influence people.
It only needs to be convincing.
A fake voice can sound real.
A fake image can look real.
A chatbot can feel friendly.
A generated message can feel personal.
And once machines can imitate human communication, they can also be used to shape emotion, trust, fear, anger, and desire.
That is why Metropolis still feels modern.
The film asks, who controls the machine and what do they want people to believe?
This is a much better question than simply asking, is AI good or bad?
AI is not a fairy godmother, and it is not a demon with a Wi-Fi connection.
It is a tool inside a system of power.
If the goal is to help people, AI can be wonderful.
If the goal is to manipulate people, AI becomes dangerous very quickly.
The same applies to work.
