I think that what we are learning right now, and it's a very painful lesson, and I hate that you are in the linchpin of it.
This could not have happened.
America had to see itself.

We changed because we couldn't bear the images we saw of ourselves.
We had to see people get beat at lunch counters.
We had to see people's dogs get, like, the thing, when I watch all those black people who suffered so they could sit at the Woolworth counter, and I realize how shitty that food was, I'm like, why'd they do that?
