We don't know if Duke wants you to stay or whatever, or they just want to win, but the monetary damages are going to be sufficient.
Maybe, Jason, as you mentioned, it could be the $4 million that he was going to be paid
this coming season, plus a penalty on top of that, a million dollars, whatever that is, right?
Then they can maybe argue in court over the monetary damages like, hey, that's too punitive or what have you.
That's too much of a punishment.
They could do that after the fact.
But I think the amicable solution will eventually be if they go to arbitration, which I think they end up will.
that there's going to be some monetary walk away.
Like, okay, the contract is severed.
Derry Mintz can go wherever he wishes.
The question is going to be when.
And the court is going to have to rule.
And I think it's likely that they say until arbitration is done that he can't sign somewhere else, which means that he would at least remain at Duke for the spring semester.
He may not compete in football.
He may not be in spring practice or anything like that.
If he really wants to go, it might be where it will be after the semester sometime this summer when arbitration is completed that he's able to sign with a school and play immediately.
That is more likely than a court saying, no, you have to go back to Duke and play football.
There's no ifs, ands, or buts.
Donald, I'm going to go ahead and say... First of all, rigmarole is a great word, and the fact that you put it in the show is amazing.
What do you say?
