I think as kids, that freedom of living in the countryside and everything.
But, you know, I had a hankering for city life.
Farming is a bit rough.
We had no electricity till I was about 10.
We had no mains water, no mains sewerage.
You know, it's a bit like a survival all on its own farming, especially in the 1960s.
If you got ill, there was no doctors.
Me and my sister set the house on fire twice and my dad had to put the fire out.
But the water had to be heated on the stove before you could have a bath.
There was no running hot water.
Although we didn't know it, life was quite tough by city standards.
But we loved the life.
Well, my dad wasn't a farmer, was he?
He was a sea captain.
Well, the sea captain spoke about farming.
Let's face it, he was not a farmer.
My brother, my father's son, is a great farmer.
Because he was born into it.
