And maybe that was getting to us a bit by then, you know.
It wasn't until we set sail in January of 71 that we actually knew we were definitely going to sail around the world.
I mean, Dougal never even trained us how to sail the yacht.
We never even practiced a trip round the bay.
I just can't believe the lack of preparedness that we as a family had.
Anne had sailed because she bought the boat up from Malta, but Dougal had sailed.
They told us adventurous stories which we thought were fantastic, but we never actually sailed ourselves.
My mum was so scared of everything.
The uncertainty, the fear, uncertainty and doubt got to my mum quite a bit.
And at one point in time, we'd had a family conference where we were to decide whether we were actually still going to do this trip or not.
The money was getting used up.
I mean, you know, we were running out of money again, you know, and this is what I said about my dad.
He lacked economic planning.
And, you know, he... But it was his dream.
It was Dougal's dream.
And, you know, I often think, because I know a lot of company directors these days, and they have to be a bit dreamers.
They have to be a bit dreamy.
Otherwise, they'd all be accountants, you know what I mean?
And we'd never get anywhere.
