I feel like this is certainly what's being echoed is this sort of heavy infantry force being just sort of slowly worn away and inflicting absolutely insane disproportionate casualties in the process.

But generally speaking, we don't see that.

If you can inflict five to one casualties on your opponent, they usually kind of come apart.

Even if they vastly outnumber you, the psychological impact of that is just not going to go.

This is a fantastical story, but it's also in a fantastical narrative.

There is a magic ring at play.

And also the Numenoreans are superhuman.

Yeah, they are.

And they're openly described this way.

In this passage especially, you get a sense that these guys are huge.

And they're just like knocking these orcs right around.

Like the orcs can't even really get to grips with them initially because they're physically bigger.

And so the reach of their swords and spears is longer, right?
