I kind of went and talked to young people about this when they're coming up to leaving certain, they're not entirely sure what they want to do with their lives.
I oftentimes tell that story about when I was coming up to leaving school, I hadn't a clue what I wanted to do and I wouldn't have been overly academic.
And so the idea of going to college, it was a possibility.
It wasn't something I wanted to do.
And I can remember kind of talking down to that saying, oh, I don't want to.
I just want to get out and get a job.
But I was really bad with things like with my hands, you know, in terms of I would never have been good at a trade.
I was too short for the guards and I was too young for to be a fireman.
And so nursing kind of was one of those things.
Back then you got paid to do nursing.
So it was the apprenticeship model.
And so I applied to almost every hospital in Dublin and the surrounding areas and eventually got into St.
John of God's in Stillorgan and started my training there as a 17 year old.
Like when I think about it now, like heading into a space like that as a child, really.
Yeah, straight away, I kind of knew I was home.
