Unconsciously, they had a life that was designed perfectly.
And also sensorily.
You know how I said the thalamus, one of the parts of the brain that changes, it's the part where the sleep-wake cycle and all that.
It's also where senses come in.
Noise, smell, sight, everything comes through there.
All of a sudden it's rewired.
You can hear things better.
You can see things better.
Everything sounds loud.
sirens everything sounds like a siren everything looks like a spotlight everything feels just the clothes feel disturbing right um this is why the old well my culture especially um women are separated from society they're put in a room it's dim it's quiet it's peaceful
the senses come back down a bit because you're heightened is this is this during pregnancy you mean postpartum postpartum in asian cultures they have that period of confinement really yeah in asian cultures i think it's about 40 days in my culture it's certainly 40 days where women are cared for by other women so your only job is to look after your baby
And even then you're supported with that.
And noise is low, lights are low.
They knew about this, the biology already.
But in the Western culture, you come out and you hit the streets of Grattan Street after having a baby at Royal Women's.
Visitors immediately, immediately, right?
I would go around in the hospital, right?
No visitors, like in the medication chart.
And I said, why are you writing that?
It's for medication only.
