Yeah, that's so interesting.
So it's actually called imagery re-scripting.
Yeah, and it's part of schema therapy.
I use it quite a lot.
Have you ever given a spray?
Actually, like stepping out of me being a therapist, I love when I get to step in and be the assertive... Play character.
Yeah, and because really what we're doing there is...
So the way in which imagery re-scripting is working is that we're identifying the unmet need that was there for the child or the younger person there.
And so the client will go to that place in that memory and then as though it's happening in the moment.
So it's very present moment focused.
And then we would have at the start at least the therapist come in
and be what's called the healthy adult for the vulnerable child.
And so that healthy adult is the one that is meeting the unmet need of the child.
So that's the need to be stood up for, for example, or to feel protected, to feel nurtured.
in that kind of sense.
And so the therapist then talks back to the people or protects the child or does whatever it needs to do to help this vulnerable child.
And it can be very, very emotional and it can feel strange like you've got your therapist here in this memory with you.
But the idea is that you might do that several times and then you actually work towards this notion that
you as a healthy adult will then come into the memory to care for that vulnerable child you.
So it transitions from the therapist coming in at the start because the therapist can be in healthy adult mode.
