I don't know if you need to.

Why can't that be a decent conversation?

That is a reasonable pastoral application of this passage.

But does that happen?

I think so.

I think of accountability groups and men.

You can have these, yes, but those are difficult to implement, and they pose many dangers.

You have groups of untrained people, and they're confessing their sins to one another, and you have the danger of people giving bad advice.

or being scandalized or lack of confidentiality.

So yeah, there's high accountability groups where maybe this could be implemented.

But my point, Matt, was in my church experience, there was really no way to pull this off with a congregation.

commonly understood customary way of doing this within evangelical Protestantism.
