Now, we don't say that hopelessly as Christians.
We say that though, recognizing that life is miserable.
I can say I am blessed beyond all measure.
I have no right to say anything about what it means to suffer.
But I have suffered.
I know what that means.
And in suffering, I am sharing and partaking of my human brothers and sisters as I do.
So something about this, Dante is very personal, is yet another one of these great moments when he becomes every man.
