Okay, step number three.
All right, Michael, I didn't look at the clock and I didn't go pee, but I'm awake.
What should I do?
So what I have people do here is I need to do something where I can avoid what we call monkey mind.
I don't know if I have to give you a description of monkey mind, but I think everybody out there probably knows what I mean by monkey mind.
It's this repetitive thinking about something that you really wish you weren't thinking about.
So my favorite technique to do here is called 4788.
breathing, all right?
So let me explain to everybody how to do it.
It's exactly what it sounds like.
This was developed by Dr. Andrew Weil.
He's a Harvard-trained natural doctor, super smart guy, developed this actually, believe it or not, for the Navy to help their snipers lower their heart rate before they had to engage.
So you slowly breathe in for a count of four through your nose.
You hold for a count of seven.
Then you slowly push out through your mouth for a count of eight, all right?
Now, again, four in, seven holds,
out eight, four, seven, eight breathing.
Now, here's the problem.
I tried this on myself because I am not immune to this.
I wake up every once in a while in the middle of the night and can't fall back to sleep.
