Yeah, and that's the problem with presentism.

I really worry about presentism.

Presentism, meaning what?

Well, presentism is something I've talked about where people hold people to current standards based on something they may have done

10 years ago, 20 years ago, as an idiot teenager.

And it's gone so far as to go all the way back 250 years.

They go back to George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and they want to change school names or tear their statues down now because they owned slaves 250 years ago.

Was that a good thing to own slaves?

No, that's an ugly thing to do ever, of course.

But at the time...

It was not looked at.

The mores and folkways and laws 250 years ago were not the same as they are today.

And they judged them because they didn't have the foresight to say 250 years from now, there will be different standards than they are now.
