But again, at the sentencing part then, there was a great deal made of the fact that he was no longer involved in crime.

You know, he was on bail for a while.

But one of it was that he couldn't go back to Limerick.

So it was an extreme loss of face for somebody who had once been head of the McCarthy-Dunding gang or seen as the head of it, that he couldn't go back to his home city and had moved to Donegal and was living there and by all accounts living quite quietly.

And members of his family have, you know, have normal lives, have normal jobs.

I suppose there is a hint of that there is life after gangland for some people.

Yeah.

Yeah, I mean, again, I suppose he's into his fitness and I suppose that's where they got him as well because he was going to the gym as he did all the time in UL, the University of Limerick, and he was able to run from the gunman.

So he was actually, I think it was four times he was hit.

Yeah.

I mean, we got pictures of him not too long afterwards.

You could see, you know, he had pins in his arm.

So, I mean, he obviously had

a certain amount of surgery as well.

Yeah.

But very lucky, I guess, to survive that.

And whether or not that would have kicked off a whole new round of kind of serious violence or not is anyone's guess.

Yeah, generally, I mean, I suppose we only get to kind of get involved as journalists, I suppose, at the Section 3 stage, which is when they're applying to have the cases, you know, they're applying to have the assets declared, the proceeds of crime.
