We boo the villain.
We cheer the hero.
And we are completely entertained because we suspend our disbelief.
We know it's not real.
Spoiler alert for any of your listeners who thought that wrestling is real.
We are part of this spectacle because we suspend our disbelief.
And the concept in wrestling is called kayfabe.
It's the idea that we know what we are watching is fake, but we don't care because we are entertained.
Now,
This is what a lot of people don't realise about political theatre these days.
They look at people like a Trump supporter and say, well, how could they possibly believe that?
Or how could they support a candidate who's trashing all of our conventions so much?
The supporters know it's not true.
The supporters are suspending their disbelief.
They love the spectacle.
They're part of the spectacle.
They see every crazy thing that Trump does as a middle finger to the establishment.
So the more that you get pissed off at it, the better the kayfabe for them, the better their wrestler is winning against your wrestler.
We're tribal creatures and a wrestling match is where you pick a side and you go for your wrestler to defeat the baddies.
And you look at it throughout, you know, the geopolitical history of America, the baddies in wrestling were Iraqi or Iranian or Soviet and, of course, you know, they mirrored the geopolitical enemies of the day because we pick a tribe and...
