Lactic acid rapidly, you know, making its way through your body.
Your lungs are on fire.
Your quads are screaming.
And then I'd see it.

Right on the screen in front of me.
712 meters to go.
And I'd simply remind myself every time I saw it that this would end.
That I could rise above.
That I could conquer this demon.
And I'm not sure why or how that came to be, but I found peace in it.
The sort of calm during the storm.
Because when it hurts, we tell ourselves the wrong things.
We miss the simple truths that matter most.
Our brains, it's almost like they don't worry about pain.
as much as they worry about the longevity of the pain.
The heart of all suffering seems to be the fear that it will last forever, that there is no finitude.
But those three numbers, they put things into perspective.
They put the pain into perspective.
