He would drive back to that plot of land, pull Sarah's body out from where he had hidden her, and he would try to incinerate her body to get rid of all the evidence.
But quickly before he did so, it was time for another sweet treat.
Wayne Cousins bought a salted caramel latte at the petrol station.
And then he stopped off at McDonald's drive-thru for some lunch.
Yes, a McDonald's drive-thru, as if he hadn't sexually harassed the women at one just five days prior to this.
A little over an hour later, Wayne's car was parked up by this plot of land that he owned and a fire was spotted in the area.
That evening, he would return home to his family, to his wife.
to his two young kids as if nothing had happened.
As if for the last two days, he hadn't been committing heinous crime after crime, as if he wasn't now a murderer.
And it seems that his family didn't really notice anything unusual about his behaviour.
He was acting normal as ever, be it because he truly was completely devoid of empathy or
because he was doing a good job at hiding his anxiety and his guilt from those around him.
Because while I do believe that this man didn't feel any empathy towards Sarah, I think he felt a lot for himself.
I think he felt sorry for himself now because he was dealing with a lot of guilt and a lot of stress thinking about how he was gonna get away with this.
He actually called off of work the next day saying that he wouldn't be able to make it in due to stress.
And you know what?
I do believe that he was stressed.
I think the amount of sweet treats and warm drinks, salted caramel lattes, hot chocolates, little pastries, to me, that does strike as a very pathetic man trying to comfort himself in any small way that he can.
Not that he deserves to feel any level of comfort right now, but it seems to me that he's trying to self-soothe.
He also emailed his supervisor around the same time saying that he no longer wants to carry a firearm.
