Yeah, because you do have to stand trial for arson if you arson.
She's trial was held in late March 1888, and there was a lot of compelling evidence against her.
And she really didn't have anything to say in her defense.
And instead, she rambled incoherently and periodically cried out for her son, Charles, who had been placed in the custody of the society to protect children from cruelty.
With no coherent defense, she was quickly found guilty and sentenced to two years in the Eastern State Penitentiary.
Having been estranged from her family or anyone else who might come to her defense, she had alienated everyone in her life.
No one spoke on her behalf in the trial or sentencing phase.
And on May 4th, she began serving her two-year sentence.
there and Lizzie, they didn't know it at the time, but they would never see each other again.
Now, little is documented or really known of Lizzie's time at Eastern State Penitentiary, but her prison record does say that she was a model prisoner, which is wild when you find out how she was later.
