Because Woolies and Coles consumer trust in those supermarkets absolutely dove last inflationary cycle, right?
So consumers obviously had mass allegations of gouging.
We had the ACCC do an investigation into the supermarket's pricing mechanisms.
We've now got these court cases.
These supermarkets are hyper-conscious that consumers don't trust them.
And interestingly, since the last big round of inflation, Coles and Woolies have another threat, and that is Aldi.
Aldi still is nowhere near as big as Coles and Woolies, but it has grown substantially.
It's actually got close to the same amount of stores as Coles now.
So they've got another threat here as well, which is why I think that Woolies has come out today and said these 300 items, home brand items, staying stable, nappies, everyday items.
Yeah, as you noted, it's an obvious play to consumers.
I've noticed covering the supermarkets that Coles has really been fighting back to Aldi especially.
So I wouldn't be surprised if Aldi has been taking a bit of a margin hit there.
to keep fighting in this environment.
It is interesting on market power, Carrington.
I do recall very vividly that the Audi boss fronted an inquiry a year or two ago and said, yeah, competition here is not nearly as strong in supermarkets as Europe.
So let's see how that rides out this time.
