Well, they were obsessed with horror movies in general.

They were into scary movies.
And one of the movies they were especially intrigued by or obsessed with was the Scream murders with the mask.
So Cassie Jo Stoddard was a 16-year-old high school student who was brutally murdered on September 22nd of 2006.
This was while she was house-sitting for relatives in Pocatello, Idaho.
So we're back to Idaho.

It was deemed the Scream murder, and investigators later found that her attackers instilled fear before making their move, like switching off the power in the house and wearing creepy Halloween masks over their faces.
They had also planned the killing in advance and recorded videos discussing it, reportedly drawing inspiration from the horror film Scream.

The teens were arrested within days, convicted of first-degree murder, and were each sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, which is now viewed as extremely controversial, which we will also get into because in the third part, they actually talk about a Supreme Court decision that has to do with whether minors should be convicted of...
