So one of the stages of a poltergeist case is apports and disapports.
So by that, we just mean that an apport is the alleged paranormal transference of an object from one place to another, or for an object to appear seemingly out of thin air, out of nowhere.
And then disapport is the same, but in reverse.
So something that disappears suddenly into the void, basically.
In the case of 30 East Drive, which we talked about in a previous episode that you went to, it was the domino that seemed to appear.
So probably one of the cases that had a large number of appoets and disappoets was the Alma Fielding case.
So in London in 1938, Alma Fielding, who was quite an ordinary working-class woman, she began to experience lots of odd supernatural events at her home.
And Nandor Fodor, who was a Jewish-Hungarian refugee and he was also basically the chief ghost hunter for the International Institute of Psychical Research, went to investigate.
He's her Harold Chibbit, if you like.
And all these strange things started happening, sort of classic poltergeist escalation.
But one of the most odd features of her case was this constant appearance and disappearance of objects, which included jewellery, beetles coming out of gloves, a live terrapin appearing in her car.
And on further investigation by Fodor under more scientific conditions, which included having her strip searched, she had x-rays, she was stitched into a bodysuit, things like that.
They basically found that she was a talented performance artist who was able to hide objects in various body cavities and then seemingly produce them from nowhere.
All right, let's go to the ship.
When we talked about stages of a poltergeist, the very last one is voice phenomena.
We can sort of explain away Ethel's experience in terms of the psychology and the trauma and the torture, but I just cannot work out how on earth somebody managed to do that because it's not just any voice, it's Ethel's mother's voice.
She knows that voice personally.
I don't understand how someone was able to get away with that in a very crowded, very small house for 12 years with the whole family and Chibbit and the reporters and everybody else and nobody noticed.
I think it's a very interesting theory, but to me it's absolutely not possible for it to be John.
