The town became pretty much a critical river trail transfer point.

So rail could only get so far before it then had to transfer to the river and vice versa.

And so this was a transfer point between the river and railway.

Oh, jeez, how Roman of us.

So there you go.

There's a gun turret from the River Gunboat Pioneer that's displayed in the town there, the local war memorial, if you want to pop in and have a look at that.

OK.

But here is the sign right here, Mashie, as we come up the hill, that says...

66 kilometres.

Oh, see, that says 66 kilometres.

Yeah, see, and it was up here and it said 69.

So I don't know what went on.

Maybe Hamilton has come closer to Auckland by three kilometres.

There's a chance.

I thought they'd had to change it.

We're now also approaching the kind of new part of the Waikato Expressway, which is 110 kilometres an hour.
