So it's, I then learned in that nine year period up till 2009 when I won it with Will Davo that,

Yeah, this is a hard race to win and you've got to be lucky to win it.

So what's your favorite?

They're all different.

Absolutely all different.

First one's obviously first and you think, well, how cool is that?

I mean, I grew up as a kid watching this on the couch every first weekend in October, watching this on TV and here I am winning it, let alone racing in it.

That's pretty special.

Then winning it with Will and HRT, that was pretty special because that was right when HRT was right at its peak.

Winning it with Nick because he was a rookie, like he'd never done the 1000 before.

And I chose him and said, right, I want you.

Spent all year training him and working with him.

And every day we trained, every day we spoke about the race and just prepared all the way, all year for that.

So that was pretty cool.

And then obviously...

It was a while and then went to Triple Eight and won it with Shane.

The first one that we won with Shane was weird because that was a COVID race.

There was no one there.

It was like, you're up on the podium and there's tumbleweeds blowing down pit straight.

That was strange.
