I've always taken the view that I'm pleased when my colleagues move past me, that they're doing well.
Take joy in the progress of others.
You know, that's part of working on oneself and being, in a sense, more selfless, which from a hiring perspective is a great trait.
So I did have a mom who came to me because her daughter was, you know, doing just that.
I don't remember if it was a young adult, teenager.
You know, part of me wanted to say, take the damn phone out of her hands.
Enough of this already.
But that, we weren't going that way.
So I had suggested to her to ask her daughter, what do you think this person's life is really like?
Why do you think they are so compelled
to post so many videos about themselves.
Is that something who has a good sense of their worth?
Is that something that they really need to do?
Where do you think this is coming from?
And I was encouraging her to use curiosity with her daughter to help her daughter, in a sense, more self-reflect
on the behaviors of those who are engaged in such behavior, putting their life out there constantly is the best.
It apparently worked for her because the daughter started asking more questions of what was underneath the behavior rather than the superficiality of just comparing myself and saying, I want, I want, I want.
Where did this come from?
Yeah, but people think that there's only so much water in the cup.
