Remember he was the director of elections in Dublin Bay South in July of 2021 when Fianna Fáil got an almost unbelievably low score of 4.8% in that by-election.
Now it did no harm to him or Micheál Martin in the general election afterwards.
But I've long been of the view that all this talk about leadership in Fianna Fáil is slightly redundant.
The chance was for any putative challenger was during the presidential election fiasco.
Nobody came forward then.
And I don't think it's happened in the last few months to suggest that, A, given that it's now the weekend of Fianna Fáil's 100th anniversary of the founding of the party, the EU presidency to come,
I would say Micheál Martin is sort of safest hoses until at least 2027.
And I've taught for a long time, and I've mentioned this to you on this programme and in other fora, that any change in leadership in Fianna Fáil is likely to come when Micheál Martin
thinks about stepping down when he ends up as Taoiseach.
I don't see him becoming Tánaiste and running in 2029 when he'll be 40 years in the Dáil.
He cannot say that, of course, but that would be how I would view the Fianna Fáil leadership position as of now.
