Napoleon Dynamite, he made for $400,000 and now he's got a $150 million movie.
Good for him. Good for him. Obviously very good for the careers of Jack Black and Jason Momoa. You could have put me in that fucking movie and it would have made $150 million. Kids don't give a shit about that. I don't know, man.

Jack Black, though. Jack Black has been making moves. I mean, I'm sure it was additive, but it's not the reason why the movie did what it did. Movie stars generally aren't the reason. It's why Robert Downey Jr., when he plays Iron Man, everyone goes nuts. When he plays a lawyer or whatever, nobody gives a fuck. Because they care more about the character than they do.

Obviously, when the actor and the character come together...
Obviously, when the actor and the character come together...
right yeah and it's a good combination as it was in the case of iron man brilliant choice to play that character and he did it brilliantly then you get it but it's not like again harrison ford when he plays indiana well even not not so much or han solo whatever people show up when he plays just some dude people are like who cares right because it's not necessarily the style we haven't had a star driven system in hollywood for a long time it's ip amen zendaya's getting there right so yeah fair enough she's getting there no she's great um

I think the movie stars still can still move the needle. They certainly still mean a lot when you're trying to get movies set up. Believe me, I know it's, you know, who are we going to, I'm literally about to go out with a, with a movie project sooner. Like the first thing is like, who are we going to, you can't just send out a script anymore. You have to package it.

You have to add an actor who's additive, who moves the needle, who does the spreadsheet say yes to, right? All that. You got to do all that bullshit. What do they do foreign? Are they a big international appeal? It's all a spreadsheet. But a couple of things I thought were interesting, side stories out of the Minecraft movie.

One I thought was the police having to be called to kick unruly kids out of a bunch of theaters. Kids are apparently going fucking wild at this movie. Good for them. These are kids that might not otherwise ever go to a movie, right? They're going just because they love Minecraft, right? I've seen the footage, the camera phone footage.

They're throwing shit at the screen and fucking climbing over the seats and going feral. It's like every showing in this movie is like a Rocky Horror midnight show.

Again, I had a kid who had to do remote schooling during the pandemic, and there's no question that it's had a lasting effect on kids socially, environmentally, in terms of their confidence, insecurity issues. All kinds of... I mean, we're going to be unpacking that scientifically in studies for decades.

This is a bit more excusable because you're talking about kids under 10 years old, right?
