You know, it doesn't mean you have to be a writer or have to be with that publisher forever.

But that sort of unlocking of your creative time and space for me was really pivotal.

Oh, yeah, totally all the time.

I literally was looking out the window the whole time in maths, one of them.

I just literally never stopped.

I, like, managed to talk my dad round when I was 14 into, like, giving me his, like, acoustic guitar out of the loft or something, you know, something he'd had since he was at school.

And I just sort of started figuring it out on my own.

And I was obsessed, like, the second I realised that I could, like, make up a whole song.

myself I was like oh my god this is life this is I've just found my life you know I remember my mum and stepdad walked past my open bedroom door once it's such one of those like weird memories that's still so vivid probably because my mum still brings it up all the time but they walked past my open bedroom door and I was playing something on the guitar they thought it was something I'd learned off the radio and later at dinner that evening they were like what

that song you were playing like that?

I was like, oh, I made it up and they didn't believe me for weeks.

to show them all of the scribblings and workings out.

I was a bit like, I fell in with the wrong crowd for a while there, you know, around 14 and got in a bit of trouble and was just sort of dossing around on the estate and it was not good.

And I think they both were like, this horrific teenage girl who is like spitting at us and just being awful all the time has suddenly sat herself down and written this really nice song and it took the majors to...

to be convinced that it'd come from me but after that that was it for me I was like in a band with some people from school and I was playing in pubs and local festivals anything I could kind of wrangle us onto the bill for and I mean god it was awful we sounded like a somewhere between like Paramore and Yumi at six if they'd all got in a horrific accident it was really a car crash and um

I think at one point I'd even dyed my hair like Hayley Williams.

I had that like orange and blonde thing going on, which is just let's never let those pictures resurface.

I was troubled and then I was really creative.

It was really like a total switch in my life.

And again, speaking to the importance of like having that outlet, I think.
