And he just didn't commit to any question regarding will Stokes come back as captain or will Stokes come back at all?
So clearly it feels like if you just read the room and read what is being written in the last few days, the narrative has changed three times already.
The day the news broke, everyone in England said he can't come back from this.
This is it for Ben Stokes.
He can't be captain again.
And like it always happens in English cricket, in three days it completely flipped and everyone was on Team Stokes saying, poor Stokes, leave him alone.
What has he ever done?
He's not done anything wrong.
It's just, look at all the great things he's done for English cricket.
Yeah, but, you know, it changed.
And now it's reached a point where it sounds like, based on what Key and McCullum have said, he might come back and play international cricket.
