I can explain that if you'd like me to.
One of the problems the New Zealand economy has, and it's continued internationally, is companies that are good companies, Kiwi companies, and we can name lots of them,
they get to a certain level and they get picked off by overseas companies because we don't have capital markets deep enough here in New Zealand to sustain them.
That means the IP, the intellectual property goes, that means the smart jobs go with paying higher wages and we lose that out of our economy.
If we use our state-owned enterprises
That's a good answer on a macro level.
Well, I can't make up policy here and now without the Minister of Finance to say how we would cost it out and how we would pay for that.
But I think it's clear enough from our track record that when Kiwis were doing it tough under the last crisis, we were enabled to do that.
And we did that very well to keep people in work, keep people working and keep the economy going.
When I saw the pictures, when I saw the Bloomberg questions in September 2025, I have to say it was like a knife through my soul.
I did not expect that level of connection.
So the new bar is on the ground floor of Parliament that Gerard Brownlee's invested a fair bit in.

Well, I mean, it's a disaster for National.
I mean, Kiwis are figuring out choices like how to pay for food, whether they buy petrol for the car or food for the family, and these guys
are looking like a circus.
