I was on the same pitch as Kenny Douglas.
I remember, I think it was the Sandy Jardine stand that we were opening and Liverpool come up to play in the game.
And I remember standing in the tunnel looking at the Douglasians as soon as, you know, just proven winners.
And when you went out onto the park and you seen...
the ability these guys had it was incredible what a football player he was absolutely sensational footballer went on to have a great you know career management as well won a lot of trophies obviously took Blackburn to that famous Premier League win I used to see him occasionally when I would go over to La Manga I think he's got a place over there he's a very keen golfer like myself and
I used to see him on the golf course and everything like that.
And as you quite rightly say, Andrew, we wish him all the very best in his recovery.
I like to see that from a club.
I like, you know, players to be rewarded for their loyalty.
And Stephen Welsh is one of these guys who would never get in a chap a door and cause problems.
He loved playing with Celtic.
It's just unfortunate that probably Stephen Welsh and Celtic are going different directions.
I think what makes it easier is quite simple for me, Andrew.
I think that he was obviously noticed with performances with Motherwell.
I don't think Stephen Welsh was anywhere near the centre half, the player, the guy that can come out with the ball and make things work.
He's not the biggest centre half I've ever seen, but very rarely seen him losing aerial battles.
He was a clever, clever player.
And I think the fact that he's played week in, week out with Motherwell,
I think it's benefited them and I think there's been a lot of clubs that will sit up and take notice he won't be short of offers and I think that's why he sat down with Celtic and as much as I say that a selfish manager if I went into Celtic I'd look at his performances I'd look at everything and think yeah I could keep him as a squad player I don't think he'd let you down but I like the fact that Celtic have decided look we're not going to stand in your way and we wish him all the best
bed him in quite quickly I think Chris is spotting the money the one thing I will say is I totally understand where Chris is coming from as a Celtic fan in a club saying look we could have got a bit of money for him and I don't think there's any doubt they probably could but I think they've just looked at the situation the lad's been there a long long time every time he's been asked never let Celtic down he's never caused problems
