And that was seen as failure.
And I always felt that the teams that really did, really made an impression at World Cups, they didn't have three or four top players.
They had five, six, seven top players.
Because you're only as strong as your weakest link, if you like.
And when you get into the knockout stages, you're playing in Argentina, or you're playing in Brazil, or you're playing West Germany,
the really big guys, you get found out because they exploit your weakest link.
And I think Scotland at any given time, certainly the three World Cups I played in, they had four, maybe five really, really good players that were comfortable in anyone's company.
But beyond that, hold your respect to them, we fell short.

Listen, when you're playing football, you get yourself at the highest level, professional footballers, get themselves to a place where they're only focused on the next five seconds in front of them, then the next ten seconds.
And that's how you play 90 minutes.
That's all you're interested in.
That's where you're focused at, is that split second.
You haven't got time to think about anything else.
