So here's the stats here on suicides.
In absolute terms, pre-pandemic suicide rates were 12 to 13 deaths per 100,000 people in Australia.
And of that, men account for 75% of those.
Surveys show the cost of living pressures and personal debt are frequently cited as the primary source of elevated stress levels leading to suicide, with reports noting about 50% of Australians reporting high stress due to cost of living and personal debt.
And about 58% of those seeking help link it to debt or housing stress.
And I just saw a couple of nights ago, actually, on 60 Minutes, there was a whole segment on the cost of living crisis and what it's doing to some people.
