err on the side of giving them one game too many than one game too few if they were great players.
But half the job was to recognise not only when they were ready, but when their time was up.
And to keep bringing good players in while you had the core of a good side.
So while Steve Smith is still there, I'd love to see some good young batsmen in there that get to learn from
from Steve Smith.
I mean, he's going to be there for a few more years yet, I hope.
And, I mean, he's already shown signs this summer that he's in pretty good form, so there's no reason why not.
But, you know, while you've got some of those great bowlers, have some of the young bowlers learning.
Now, I know that some good young players have travelled with Australian teams in recent years and they're getting to train with these guys and observe them from close quarters, but there is nowhere better.
to learn what you've got to do out in the middle than out in the middle and at that level.
It's no good getting good at this level expecting to be good at this level.
And the longer you stay at this level, the harder it is for you to get to that level.
So the challenge for the Australian selectors that I see coming up is how do you move to that next generation if they try and stay
with this generation for as long as possible and bring other people in who are from that generation, who only have a few years to play, then you'll go further and further into the cul-de-sac and it'll be harder to get out.

But there are, if you look at each of the state sides at the moment, you know, they're picking young batsmen.
