So I use ride share a lot and I would very often keep checking multiple different apps in order to see what the best price was.
So I would have to type my destination into Uber, Lyft, maybe Wemo and swipe between them to just find what's cheapest.
And I thought there had to be a better way.
And I would see people around me do that as well.
So I made this app.
It took me about two months to go from the idea to the first prototype, and then a few more months to get it to work really reliably and get it published out there.
I used it somewhat, so...
The parts of the app that actually connect to the servers of different ride share companies are mostly written by myself, but then the sort of user interface of it is mostly written by AI.
I think the one that comes to mind is Waymo being about two to three times the price of Uber or Lyft for a certain ride.
This often happens in peak hours, like morning and evening rush hours.
So Hackney is not an app that works officially with rideshare companies.
So the users who use it sign in with their rideshare accounts, which are all stored on the phone, and then the phone is talking directly to the servers of each rideshare company.
So I've been working a lot on trying to make the app able to interoperate with these different companies.
There's a button in the app that just opens Uber for you and fills in the route and the car type you selected.
So you press confirm.
It's at a few thousand so far.
