So I was looking to recruit.

And so I got some targets, not just in that country, but somewhere else as well.

And I ended up working against the GRU, which is the military intelligence and the KGB.

Of course, as you know, the KGB...

Later broke down into the FSB, the internal, and then the first chief directorate became the external intelligence service of the new Russia.

But the GRU has never changed.

It's still the GRU.

The KGB used to call them boots.

The Russian word, they called them boots because they said they were a bunch of bloody soldiers and clumsy and all.

My experience, not so much.

I thought they were pretty professional and I had a major operation against them.

So, yeah.

So what can you tell us about that?

Well...

The thing about intelligence operations is that they can change direction and colour from, you know, there I'm busy trying to recruit him and suddenly he's trying to recruit me.

So he has realised that there's more to me and he thinks he's got the chance.

And I remember when he asked me to get him some things from here and I went and told my colleague and he said, oh, we're going to crush his balls.

You know, I remember him saying it.

No, I made an appointment to go out and see him out in his office.

And using the introduction, and so I went out there, I took a cab out there, and we took a risk.
