I found people saying horrible things about me online really hard.
And I found sometimes I would kind of
yeah, really pour myself into
these quite traumatic roles and kind of just want to give it everything and do the best work I possibly could.
And then afterwards, I'd feel really like wrecked by that, I guess.
Yeah, so Detroit is based on a real story.
It's about the Algiers motel murders which took place during the Detroit uprising in 1967.
And the woman I played was a young woman who was at this motel where the police sort of stormed in and...
really kind of interrogated in a very, very brutal way all night long, 10 guests at the motel.
And this woman, Julie, was sexually assaulted by a police officer.
She had her dress ripped off.
And I shot, you know, a kind of recreation of that
moment of that scene um and for you know the way you film things is you do it over and over again from different angles different takes multiple takes and so i experienced this physical act of having my clothes ripped off many many times sort of like more times than i could count and i kept telling myself you know well this is just pretend it's acting it's your job it's fine um but it was really clear to me
in my body, I think almost immediately that I was not fine and I'd had quite an extreme reaction to filming that scene.
yeah so yeah the a personal trainer who i was seeing in boston recommended a sort of reiki healer um and i thought i'd kind of been getting into spirituality and meditation and those sort of things so i thought oh that sounds like great and interesting and uh if nothing else it'll be you know an interesting story about that one time i went to see an energy healer
And I went and it was a much more intense experience than I ever could have imagined, really.
Oh, I mean, intense and incredible.
I mean, I thought it was the best experience I'd ever had in my life.
I, you know, I had my eyes closed the whole time and this woman who was performing the healing was not touching me at any point.
But it was, I sort of started laughing hysterically.
